"I finished reading it, and I have to say you did something many first-time writers struggle with, you wrote with honesty. The coming-of-age tone feels authentic, and Sebastian’s journey of identity, responsibility, and emotional growth carries the story well. I especially liked how the weekend trip becomes more than just an adventure; it turns into a turning point in his life.
The symbolism throughout the story is thoughtful, and the quieter reflective moments give the book depth. Those are the parts readers usually remember most. I can also see why you added the Reader and Teacher Guide, it actually fits the themes of the story and could work well in an academic setting.
What stood out to me most is that the story has heart. That’s something you can’t teach, and it’s what keeps readers connected to a character. With some continued polishing and the right positioning, I can definitely see this resonating with readers.
And the fact that you’re already thinking about book two tells me you’re approaching this the right way. Series thinking is how many strong writing careers are built."
(Actually more of a feedback to me than a review. But wonderful and inspiring nevertheless. It's people like her who make success easier. She is a championing champion!)

"This novella is a beautifully crafted Bildungsroman that captures the quiet, often unexpected moments in which we realize we’ve grown. Through Sebastian’s seemingly simple weekend drive to San Felipe to meet friends, the story unfolds into something far deeper: a reflection on youth, friendship, independence, and the subtle transformations that shape us.
What makes the narrative so compelling is how naturally Sebastian’s development emerges from the experiences around him. The road trip setting is vivid and atmospheric, giving readers a sense of motion and possibility, while San Felipe itself becomes more than just a destination—it becomes a space where self-reflection and change quietly take place. By the end of the weekend, Sebastian—and the reader—recognizes that growth doesn’t always arrive with dramatic declarations. Sometimes it reveals itself in the calm realization that you are not quite the same person who started the journey.
The novella’s strength lies in its authenticity. Sebastian feels real: thoughtful, imperfect, and relatable to anyone who has ever reached that strange threshold between adolescence and adulthood. The friendships, conversations, and small moments of introspection ring true, giving the story emotional depth without ever feeling forced.
In the end, this is a coming-of-age story told with warmth and sincerity. It reminds us that growth often happens in ordinary places, during ordinary weekends, when we least expect it. Sebastian’s trip to San Felipe becomes a quiet but powerful testament to the way experiences—shared with friends, on the road, and within ourselves—shape who we become."

The Sea of Cortez was a quick and easy read due to its writing style, and I immediately empathized with Seb, the main character. While reading the book, I started reminiscing about my own life-who I was at his age, when I found my voice, and seeing how much I have grown today.
There were a couple of sections in the novel where the stories or train of thought felt almost incomplete, making me wish additional details were divulged. Additionally, I would have enjoyed more background on some of the other characters, as it would have been interesting to learn and understand their point of view and perspectives. However, I understand the focus wasn’t on them but rather, on Seb. I thoroughly enjoyed The Sea of Cortez, empathized with most of the characters, and also found myself unexpectedly tearing up at the end.
